Issac Asimov is one of those people I wish I could kick right in the dick, you know? I mean, the dude makes me sick, with all his inventing stuff and groundbreaking ideas about robots. What a mega-douche.
Despite my crippling jealousy, I still have to admit that the guy was something special–hence yesterday’s quote from The Gods Themselves. I know the quote was a tough one, but I figured it was about time to throw some Asimov into this biatch.
Can you guess this quote? It’s a little on the sad side of romantic, but still wicked good.
“There is something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other, especially when you are the only extra person in the room. It’s like watching Paris from an express caboose heading in the opposite direction–every second the city gets smaller and smaller, only you feel it’s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour.”
If you knew that yesterday’s quote was from Ender’s Game then you get a high five. In fact, you get the highest five I can manage, which is pretty high considering that I’m 6’6″. On a side note, did you know they’re making an Ender’s Game movie? How fricken awesome is that shiznit? I think Harrison Ford might be the only big name they have going for it so far, but even with just him it could be dope.
Here’s your quote for the day, peeps. Get it!
“Life’s greatest happiness is to be convinced we are loved.”
I know, I know–yesterday’s quote from Timothy Zahn’s book, The Last Command, was kind of a toughie. But seeing as I am a total Star Wars expanded universe fanboy you should have known that one of those was coming. If you’ve never read these books and you’re a Star Wars fan you really ought to give the Thrawn Trilogy a shot. Here’s a link to the page on Wookiepedia for you to check it out. Go ahead and click it. I know you want to.
Here’s your Sappy Sunday quote for the week!
“His heart beat faster and faster as Daisy’s white face came up to his own. He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God. So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star. Then he kissed her. At his lips’ touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete.”
If you guessed that yesterday’s quote was from Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere then I applaud you, ye quotation super pro! A few years ago I saw the cheesiest BBC adaptation of the book that had the lowest of budgets you could imagine. I’m talking about actors wearing traffic cones on their heads and glowsticks on their shirts, you know. Yeah. It was bad.
But enough broken budget talk–onto our Sappy Sunday quote!
“When we two parted In silence and tears, Half brokenhearted, To sever for years.”
Yesterday’s quote was from Richard Matheson, author of I Am Legend and a whole bunch of other great material. Considering all his great work it surprises me how few people know who this dude is. Movies like What Dreams May Come, I Am Legend, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Box, and Stir of Echoes are all based on his work. The guy is no joke when it comes to doing work.
Here’s your Sappy Sunday quote for this week!
“See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand! O that I were a glove upon that hand, that I might touch that cheek!”
I’ve been doing this little “name that quote” deal for about a week or so and it’s been pretty fun, but I think it could be cooler. Starting today I am getting all themed on you with each day having a theme for the post. Here’s what I’m thinking for the categories:
- Sappy Sundays — Romance quotes. I’ll do my best to keep away from steamy vampire romance.
- Maniacal Mondays — Quotes from the nastiest villains in fiction
- Tough Guy Tuesdays — Words from the heros
- Writer Wednesdays — Something from the people who actually do the writing
- Theatrical Thursdays — Quotes from movies based on fiction
- Fantasy Fridays — A little something magical for you
- Sci-fi Saturdays — This will probably be my absolute favorite to write
Now, let’s begin!
Yesterday’s quote was from my lady J.K. Rowling, the Holy Mother of Potter. Let’s kick it off with an easy one for today’s words of romance:
“Scarlett O’Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were.”
